Our latest Insights from the Field podcast conversation is with Dr. Kim Frierson (she/her), DSW, CYC-P, a Youth Catalytics training specialist and Assistant Professor at Spaulding University in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Frierson earned her Doctor of Social Work from Tulane University and is a certified Child and Youth Care practitioner with over 15 years of experience in youth services. She is an expert on a range of topics including diversity, equity, and inclusion and anti-oppressive practices, along with self-care and community care. She spoke with Youth Catalytics’ Research and Communications Manager Mindi Wisman about the challenge of enacting systems level changes in nonprofit organizations, the difference between charity models and rights-based models, the importance of seeing and treating youth as colleagues and experts in youth-serving organizations, understanding power imbalances, working through the pandemic and more.
